New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a significant investment in water infrastructure projects across the state. The $479 million in grants includes the first funding awarded through the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act, which allocated $4.2 billion for environmental projects after being approved by voters in November 2022. The funding is projected to create 24,000 jobs and save local ratepayers approximately $1.3 billion.
Hochul emphasized the importance of ensuring access to clean water for all New Yorkers, stating, “No one in New York should ever fear that they don’t have access to clean water.” She reassured communities that the investment will make lifesaving improvements to the water infrastructure and safeguard drinking water for millions of people while also saving New Yorkers money and creating thousands of jobs.
The grants include nearly $450 million awarded through New York state’s Water Infrastructure Improvement and Intermunicipal Grant programs. An additional $30 million will be made available through the state Department of Environmental Conservation and Environmental Facilities Corporation to counties via the Septic System Replacement Program.
