Akil Thomas nets his first NHL goal in Kings’ victory over Sharks – Daily News

LOS ANGELES KINGS BEAT SAN JOSE SHARKS 2-1

In a crucial game for playoff positioning, the Los Angeles Kings defeated the San Jose Sharks 2-1 on Thursday night. Akil Thomas scored his first NHL goal in the victory, while David Rittich had a strong performance in goal with 15 saves.

The win moves the Kings seven points ahead of St. Louis for the second Western Conference wild card spot with six games remaining. They are also just one point behind Nashville for the top wild card position and one point behind Vegas for third place in the Pacific Division.

Adrian Kempe also scored for the Kings, while Klim Kostin tallied the lone goal for the struggling Sharks. San Jose has lost 11 of their last 12 games and are winless in their last eight matchups against the Kings.

The Kings outshot the Sharks 27-16 in the game, with Mackenzie Blackwood making 25 saves for San Jose. Thomas’ goal came just 18 seconds after Kempe’s goal to give the Kings a 2-0 lead early in the first period.

The Kings will look to build on this important win when they host the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday at 7 p.m. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
