Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers, the team his father has been playing with for the last six years. If they play together next season, they will make history as the first father-son duo to be on the same team at the same time in the NBA. Despite not being selected in the first round, Bronny expressed his excitement and gratitude on Instagram for being drafted by the Lakers in the second round.
Bronny has limited basketball experience, having played just one season at the University of Southern California before experiencing a serious health scare due to a congenital heart defect. Following medical treatment, he was cleared to play again and returned to the court for USC’s ninth game of the season. Meanwhile, LeBron James, known for his impressive scoring and versatility on the court, has until Saturday to decide if he will continue with the Lakers.
While LeBron has expressed interest in playing alongside his son, he has recently downplayed that goal. There have been other father-son duos in the NBA in the past, such as Dell and Steph Curry, but none have played together at the same time. Despite being 39 years old, LeBron remains a dominant player and has improved his 3-point shooting, even outperforming Steph Curry in efficiency this past season. It remains to be seen if the father-son duo will take the court together for the Lakers in the upcoming season.
