Quincy Wilson, a 16-year-old American track sensation, has made history by becoming the youngest male American track Olympian after being selected for the U.S. 4×400 meter relay team at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Wilson’s coach, Joe Lee, confirmed the news, stating that Wilson received the call from USA Track & Field on Sunday. Wilson had an outstanding performance at the trials, setting and breaking the under-18 world record for the 400-meter dash. He beat the previous record held by Justin Robinson, running 44.59 seconds in the semifinals.
Although Wilson narrowly missed qualifying as an individual runner, he was named to the relay team, making him the youngest American male track athlete to qualify for the Olympics. Prior to him, Jim Ryun and Erriyon Knighton were the youngest American male track athletes to compete in the Olympics, with Ryun debuting in 1964 and Knighton in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics. Knighton, who also qualified for the 200 meters, will be competing alongside Wilson in Paris.
