Trump aims to overturn silence money verdict following immunity ruling

Attorneys for Donald Trump are seeking to postpone his sentencing and set aside the verdict in his hush money case following the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity. The lawyers argue that the Manhattan district attorney should not have been able to offer evidence related to Trump’s official acts as president at trial. Trump’s conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records stemmed from a hush money payment made by his former attorney, Michael Cohen, to Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. The attorneys plan to file a motion to throw out the conviction and delay sentencing.

The Supreme Court’s ruling limits the evidence that can be used at trial, with some actions taken during Trump’s time in office being off-limits. The district attorney’s office has not commented on the matter. The immunity decision is also expected to delay Trump’s federal election interference case, ensuring that the trial will not begin before Election Day. The charges related to Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results will not be dismissed, but some actions closely related to his responsibilities as president will not be admissible in court. Trump is scheduled to be sentenced in 10 days, and his attorneys are pushing for a delay in light of the new legal developments.
