The threat, received via email on Tuesday morning, was quickly determined to be fake. The perpetrator of the 2018 attack, Robert Bowers, was found guilty on 63 counts and sentenced to death. Authorities have not found a connection between the hoax threat and the previous shooting. The Anti-Defamation League reported a significant increase in bomb threats against Jewish institutions in 2023, with over 1,000 threats, a major spike compared to the previous year. The rise in threats is believed to be fueled by tensions following a terror attack by Hamas against Israel and subsequent conflict in Gaza. The nature of the threat against the Tree of Life synagogue has not been disclosed, but it is part of a larger trend of increased threats against Jewish institutions in the United States.
