In the last 24 hours, at least five journalists were killed in attacks by Israeli forces in Gaza as bombings and air strikes intensified. The Gaza Government Media Office confirmed three journalists were killed in the Nuseirat refugee camp and two in Gaza City, bringing the total number of media workers killed since October 7 to at least 158. Among those killed were Palestinian journalists Saadi Madoukh and Ahmed Sukkar. Israel’s war on Gaza has become the deadliest conflict for journalists in the world, with a total of 108 media workers killed since the war began.
The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists reported that at least 87 people, including the five journalists, were killed in the last 48 hours in Gaza, bringing the total death toll to at least 38,098 in the last nine months. More than 87,700 people have been injured during Israel’s military offensive during the same period.
The attacks also targeted UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) warehouses, where a worker was killed. Additionally, at least six policemen were killed in an Israeli bombardment in Rafah. The attacks have caused massive devastation and loss of life, with bodies being taken for burials and injured individuals being treated in hospitals.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with continuous bombings and air strikes causing widespread destruction and loss of life. The international community has called for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of civilian lives and to allow for humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
