Former Oregon Duck Khyree Jackson, along with two other former college football players, tragically died in a car crash in Maryland early Saturday morning, according to Maryland State Police. The three men, identified as Isaiah Hazel, Khyree Jackson, and Anthony Lytton Jr., were in a maroon Dodge Charger when the crash occurred on northbound Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue and Presidential Parkway around 3:15 a.m.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of a silver Infinity attempted to change lanes at a high rate of speed and struck the Dodge Charger, causing it to travel off the roadway and hit multiple tree stumps. Investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
Jackson, who transferred to Oregon from Alabama, was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of this year’s draft. Oregon Football coach Dan Lanning paid tribute to Jackson on social media, expressing his shock and sadness at the news.
Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell and owners Mark and Zygi Wilf also released statements expressing their sorrow over Jackson’s passing. Jackson was an all-Pac-12 first-team selection for Oregon in 2023 and had a promising future ahead of him.
Isaiah Hazel played at Maryland and Charlotte, while Anthony Lytton played at Florida State and Penn State. Police confirmed that the driver of the Infiniti and her passengers were not injured in the crash, nor was the driver of the Impala involved. The football community is mourning the loss of these talented young athletes.
