Dean and former president of the Oregon Capital Press Corps, Peter Wong, was laid off this week by Carpenter Media, the new owner of Pamplin Media Group. Wong, who had been covering legislative sessions since 1980, wrote his last stories about the death of former Senate President Peter Courtney. Gov. Tina Kotek ordered flags at Oregon public institutions to be flown at half-staff in Courtney’s honor.

Several personnel changes were also announced this week, including Seth Dugan-Knight becoming the legislative director for the Oregon House Majority Office, replacing Jason Trombley. Deputy Legislative Director Roxy Mayer left the HMO to become a press secretary for Kotek. Jim McKenna joined the governor’s staff as the Columbia Basin federal adviser, and several judicial appointments were made by Kotek.

In further changes among Democratic senators from Portland, Kathleen Taylor took over as Oregon Senate majority leader. Naomi Adeline-Biggs is set to become the director of the Oregon Health Authority’s Public Health Division, with Michael Wood returning to Oregon to serve as deputy administrator of the Civil Rights Division at the Bureau of Labor and Industries.

Willis Homann, Johnell Bell, Charles Boyle, and Deborah Kafoury were also mentioned in the personnel changes announced this week. These changes impact various government agencies and departments across Oregon.
