Multiple new fires ignited by lightning in Northeast Oregon burn thousands of acres of land


In the last 24 hours, the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Northeast District has responded to 17 fires caused by a recent lightning storm, with three large fires of note including the Durkee Fire, the Snake Fire, and the NF Owen Fire. The Battle Mountain Complex has been created by combining the NF Owen Fire and the Snake Fire, with ODF’s Incident Management Team 3 deployed to take command. The Durkee Fire, currently burning 3,000 acres, is being managed by NW Team 6. The Oregon Department of Forestry is urging Oregonians to help prevent wildfires by avoiding bringing fire hazards to the landscape. The Northeast Oregon District is currently in Extreme fire danger, with restrictions for industrial forest operations in place.
