Two wildfires, named Lone Rock and Pilot Rock, have broken out in Eastern Oregon, as reported by KOIN.com.
The Lone Rock fire started near La Grande and quickly spread to over 1,000 acres, forcing evacuations in the area. Fire crews are working tirelessly to contain the blaze, which is currently zero percent contained.
The Pilot Rock fire, located near Pilot Rock, has also caused evacuations and is currently estimated to be around 40 acres in size. Firefighters are also working to control this fire, which is at zero percent containment as well.
The cause of both wildfires is still unknown, but hot and dry conditions in the region have made the fires difficult to combat. The communities near these fires are on high alert and officials are urging residents to stay vigilant and prepared for possible evacuations.
Local resources have been deployed to fight the fires, but additional support from state and federal agencies may be needed if the fires continue to grow.
Residents in the surrounding areas are advised to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed to avoid breathing in smoke from the wildfires. Those with respiratory issues are especially vulnerable and should take extra precautions.
