Fire managers have provided an update on the Cow Valley and Bonita fires in Malheur County and the Durkee Fire in Baker County. The Durkee Fire, caused by lightning on July 17th, has grown to 2,699 acres with 88 personnel on the scene. A strategic plan has been developed to suppress the fire, with aircraft dropping water and retardant to support ground crews. Firefighters are working to establish control points to prevent further spread.

The Cow Valley Fire, human-caused and started on July 11th, covers 133,408 acres with 303 personnel on patrol to extinguish any remaining heat pockets. The fire is 77% contained with no expected spread. The Bonita Fire, also human-caused and started on the same day, has been contained up to 90% due to suppression efforts and fuel consumption.

Authorities are offering a reward for information on the source of the Cow Valley, Bonita, and other human-caused fires that started on July 11th. Fire personnel are continuing to monitor and contain these fires as weather conditions remain hot, dry, and breezy. Aviation support is being utilized to help with suppression efforts. Voluntary evacuations may be in place as firefighters work to keep the Durkee Fire south of Burnt River. Residents in the area are advised to stay informed and prepared for any developments.
