The Oregon State Beavers are gearing up to start their 2024 season on August 31 at home against Idaho State. To count down the days until kickoff, The Oregonian/OregonLive is featuring mini-profiles of prominent former and current Beavers whose jersey numbers correspond with the days remaining. Today, they highlight No. 42, featuring linebacker Nick Barnett and quarterback/running back Joe Francis.
Nick Barnett was recruited out of California and had a successful career at Oregon State before going on to play in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills, and Washington. He had standout seasons in college, earning All-Pac-10 honors and leading the team in tackles. Barnett was also a key player for the Packers, earning All-Pro honors and winning a Super Bowl in 2010.
Joe Francis, on the other hand, was recruited from Hawaii and is considered one of the greatest all-around players in Oregon State history. He led the Beavers to success on the field, including a trip to the Rose Bowl in 1956. Francis was honored with several awards during his time at OSU and went on to play professionally with the Green Bay Packers and the CFL’s Montreal team.
