The Lone Rock Fire in North-Central Oregon has burned 83,922 acres and is now 40 percent contained, according to updates provided by NW Team 2 Operations Section Chief Dan Trapanese. The fire has been spreading south, with evacuation orders in place for various areas. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office announced a level 3 evacuation order for the Spray area, while level 2 and 3 evacuation orders have been put in place for residents in different parts of Morrow County. The community of Lone Rock has been evacuated, with a temporary shelter set up at Memorial Hall in Condon.
The Heppner Fire Department and several other fire departments provided mutual aid during the fire, deploying crews and equipment to protect structures from the approaching flames. Additional resources are continuing to arrive to assist in controlling the fire, which started at an estimated size of 50,000 acres and moved into Morrow County.
The fire has been a challenge to fight due to the difficult terrain, but crews are working diligently to contain it and ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas. The community is urged to stay updated on evacuation orders and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this wildfire outbreak.
