Athletics at Oregon State University

Jake Edelstein, a member of the Oregon State Men’s Rowing team, is entering his second year with the Beavers in the 2024-25 season. As a freshman, he participated in every race for the team, racing with both the 2nd Varsity 8 and the Varsity team. Edelstein helped the Varsity boat place 20th in the nation at the IRA National Championships.

In a recent Q&A, Edelstein shared insights into the intensity of rowing practices, highlighting the physical demands and dedication required to be competitive in the sport. He also expressed a desire for rowing to have more events, similar to track and field, to provide additional opportunities for athletes to compete.

Representing Oregon State Rowing holds great significance for Edelstein, who takes pride in being part of a team with a strong history of success. He is driven by his teammates and the camaraderie within the boat, striving to push himself to improve and achieve success.

Outside of rowing, Edelstein enjoys exploring the outdoors in Oregon, particularly off-roading in the mountains, hiking to waterfalls, and playing golf with friends. He is also a self-professed ice cream aficionado, with a penchant for creamy flavors like chocolate peanut butter.

Before competitions, Edelstein’s go-to meal is chunky peanut butter on toast with fruit and plenty of water. He gets in the zone with a pre-event playlist of hype rap songs, including tracks by Chief Keef and King Von. Edelstein epitomizes the dedication and passion of a competitive athlete, both on and off the water.
