Author from Ashland receives Oregon Arts Commission grant for novel titled ‘Honey’ – Ashland News

Award-winning novelist Victor Lodato has been awarded a Career Opportunity Program grant from the Oregon Arts Commission to assist with travel costs relating to his latest book, “Honey.” As one of 29 grant recipients, Lodato will receive $2,000 to continue touring and participating in author talks across the United States.

The grant program, which is offered twice per year, supports Oregon artists in various disciplines at any stage of their careers by funding opportunities they have been selected for or invited to participate in. The funding is meant to help artists balance honing their craft with meeting financial obligations.

Lodato’s novel “Honey” explores themes of mortality, reinvention through art, and the Italian-American experience in New Jersey. The book follows aging art collector Honey Fasinga as she reckons with her past and familial relationships after falling in love and returning to her home state.

Having been born and raised in New Jersey himself, Lodato draws on his life experiences and the atmosphere of the Garden State for inspiration. Through his slow-churning, perfectionistic approach to writing, Lodato has written three novels and transitioned from being a playwright to an acclaimed novelist.

The grant funding will support Lodato’s author events in various cities such as Bend, Hood River, and Santa Monica. “Honey” was published by HarperCollins Publishers on April 16 and is available for purchase at local bookstores and online retailers.
