On a somber anniversary of the passing of Oregon Duck tight end Spencer Webb, the Oregon Football team continued a tradition to honor their fallen teammate by hiking up Spencer’s Butte, a popular spot in Lane County bearing Webb’s name. Head coach Dan Lanning led the team up the trail, emphasizing the importance of remembering those who helped them reach their goals along the way.
A video posted by Oregon Football’s X account showcased the team’s annual climb, interspersed with interviews of Webb discussing his dreams of playing for Oregon and shots of current players climbing the butte. The message of the tribute was clear: “More than just a hike. Every step has a purpose.”
Lanning also mentioned the recent loss of Khyree Jackson, another Oregon Duck who tragically passed away in a car accident, emphasizing the importance of honoring all fallen teammates. Two tight ends who worked alongside Webb, Terrance Ferguson and Patrick Herbert, were featured in the video, highlighting the impact Webb had on his teammates.
Webb was a redshirt junior for the Oregon Ducks when he passed away at the age of 22, following a promising season where he recorded four touchdowns, 31 catches, and 296 yards. His untimely death in a cliff-diving accident near Triangle Lake two years ago left a lasting impact on the Oregon Football community, and the annual hike up Spencer’s Butte serves as a poignant reminder of his legacy.
