Hamas and Fatah, Palestinian rivals, sign unity agreement for governance in Gaza | Latest Hamas News

Gaza, China – Palestinian factions have come together to sign a historic agreement for national unity which paves the way for an interim national reconciliation government in post-war Gaza. The agreement, finalized in China after intense talks, saw long-time rivals Hamas and Fatah, along with 12 other Palestinian groups, sign on to the deal. This unity government is aimed at ensuring Palestinian control over Gaza and blocking Israeli efforts to establish a collaborative structure against Palestinian interests.

The move towards reconciliation is seen as a significant development in internal Palestinian relations, as Hamas and Fatah have been bitter rivals since conflict arose in 2006. The agreement comes amidst ongoing Israeli attacks on the region and growing calls for Palestinian unity in the face of injustice.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi hailed the agreement as a step towards national unity and stressed the importance of international support for the reconciliation process. China, which has a history of supporting the Palestinian cause and advocating for a two-state solution, has taken on a mediating role in the conflict. Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an international peace conference to bring an end to the war.

The signing of the agreement, referred to as the “Beijing Declaration”, symbolizes a commitment by Palestinian factions to work together towards a common goal. Mustapha Barghouti, a key figure in the reconciliation process, emphasized the importance of unity in the face of ongoing challenges, stating that there is “no other way now but for Palestinians to be unified and struggle together against this terrible injustice.” Implementation of the agreement is now the focus, with hopes that this unity government will bring stability and progress to the region.
