How Oregon Football Lost Four-Star Recruit Josiah Sharma to the Texas Longhorns

Four-star defensive lineman Josiah Sharma made a surprising decision to flip from the Oregon Ducks to the Texas Longhorns for the 2025 recruiting class. Sharma, originally predicted to head to Texas, had committed to Oregon before changing his mind. The 6-foot-5, 325-pound player cited feeling more at home with Texas and coach Steve Sarkisian. Despite losing Sharma, the Ducks are still looking forward to welcoming several five-star prospects to their annual Saturday Night Live Camp at Autzen Stadium.

Sharma, ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect in California and No. 7 defensive lineman in the nation, has played for the successful Folsom high school football team. The loss of Sharma marks a rare defeat for Oregon’s recruiting efforts under coach Dan Lanning. However, the Ducks remain strong in recruiting, with commitments from highly-rated players like wide receiver Dakorien Moore and cornerback Dorian Brew.

Oregon’s 2025 recruiting class ranks among the top in the nation, trailing only Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia. The upcoming commitment announcement to watch is from No. 1 safety recruit Trey McNutt, who has delayed his decision after visiting Texas A&M. Despite competing with other top programs, the Ducks are still trending positively for McNutt, adding to the excitement surrounding their recruitment efforts.
