Tragic Plane Crash Claims Lives of Three Members of The Nelons Family Gospel Group

Three members of the family gospel group The Nelons, Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and their daughter Amber Nelon Kistler, were tragically killed in a plane crash in Wyoming while on their way to the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska. Also killed in the crash were Amber’s husband, Nathan Kistler, Melodi Hodges, an assistant, pilot Larry Haynie, and his wife, Melissa. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.

Jason and Kelly’s other daughter, Autumn Nelon Streetman, who was not on the plane, thanked everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult time. The Nelons were a well-known gospel group with over 35 albums and numerous hits. They were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2016 and received multiple Grammy and GMA Dove Award nominations throughout their career.

Larry Haynie, the pilot of the plane, was also the Georgia Department of Corrections Board chairman, and Governor Brian Kemp paid tribute to him and his wife, calling for prayers for all those affected by the tragic accident. The music community and the GMA are also grieving the loss of the Nelons and expressed their deepest condolences to Autumn and the rest of the family. The Nelons will be forever cherished and remembered in the GMA Hall of Fame.
