Hurricane Ernesto is approaching Bermuda with life-threatening floods, storm surges, and 100 mph winds expected. The category 2 storm is moving at a speed of 13 mph and is due to pass over or near Bermuda on Saturday. The entire island is under a hurricane warning and as much as 15 inches of rain is forecasted. Hurricane-strength winds are expected to extend 70 miles from the center of the storm, with tropical storm-force winds felt 265 miles away. A dangerous storm surge is anticipated, leading to significant coastal flooding on Bermuda. Swells from Ernesto will also impact the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas, and potentially the U.S. East Coast. Beach-goers are warned of a significant risk of life-threatening surf and rip currents. Ernesto has already caused power outages in Puerto Rico. The storm is expected to move north and pass east of Newfoundland on Monday. Residents in affected areas are urged to take precautions to protect life and property as the storm approaches.
