Deputy Brandon Cunningham was tragically killed while responding to a domestic dispute in northwestern Georgia. This is the first time the Paulding County Sheriff’s office has lost a deputy in the line of duty. Cunningham and another deputy were met with gunfire from a suspect inside a home, leading to an ambush where Cunningham was fatally struck. Sheriff Gary Gulledge tearfully announced Cunningham’s death, asking for prayers for his family. Cunningham had been with the Paulding County Sheriff’s office for two years, leaving behind two children. The female victim from the dispute also sustained gunshot wounds and is in stable condition, while the male suspect was found dead from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will continue to investigate the incident. The entire sheriff’s office and community are mourning the loss of Deputy Cunningham, who is remembered as a great deputy and a good young man. The tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face every day while serving their communities.
