The final night of the Democratic National Convention drew about 26.2 million TV viewers, narrowly beating out the Republican National Convention’s last night. Vice President Kamala Harris’ speech accepting her party’s nomination attracted 28.9 million viewers, slightly more than former President Donald Trump’s acceptance speech, which had 28.4 million viewers. The DNC in Chicago had a larger audience each night compared to the RNC in Milwaukee. The first night of the Republican convention drew 18.13 million viewers, while the DNC’s opening night had about 20 million viewers. Viewership for the DNC increased to 20.7 million on Tuesday night, including remarks from former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama. Despite the increase in viewership from four years ago, there were fewer viewers overall on the final night of the conventions this year compared to previous years. The DNC’s closing night exceeded viewership for the final night four years ago when 24.6 million people tuned in. This decline in viewership on TV reflects the overall trend of decreasing TV viewership.
