The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for a stabbing attack in Germany that killed three people and injured eight others, six of them seriously. The attack took place during a celebration in the city of Solingen. The attacker targeted Christians, according to the Islamic State-run Amaq news agency, to avenge Muslims in Palestine. Authorities are still searching for the attacker and have detained a 15-year-old in connection with the stabbing, although they do not believe he was the attacker. Police are also investigating another person in connection with the attack. Prior to the festival, there was no concrete threat, according to Wuppertal police. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed shock at the killings and emphasized the importance of catching the perpetrator quickly and punishing them to the full extent of the law. Mayor Tim Kurzbach expressed sadness and shock over the attack, mourning the victims and praying for those still fighting for their lives.
