Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah recently made a televised speech following a heavy exchange of fire between the Lebanese group and Israel. This attack was in response to the Israeli assassination of senior military commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut last month. Nasrallah emphasized that Hezbollah wants to avoid military escalation and signaled that the attack was successful in targeting Israeli military and intelligence sites.
The main focus of Hezbollah’s attack was the Glilot base north of Tel Aviv, home to the Mossad and military intelligence Group Unit 8200. Nasrallah blamed the intelligence services for the assassinations of Hezbollah commanders. He also mentioned that the attack was delayed for various reasons including Gaza ceasefire talks and preparations for Israeli and US deployments.
Nasrallah refuted Israeli claims that they had prior knowledge of the attack and prevented it from causing significant damage. He emphasized that the attack was planned and successfully carried out, targeting only military and intelligence sites to avoid civilian casualties. Nasrallah also challenged the narrative that Hezbollah was planning a massive attack with thousands of rockets, stating they deliberately fired around 300 followed by drones.
The Lebanese group’s leader stressed the importance of avoiding civilian casualties and public infrastructure, such as the Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. Nasrallah expressed that the goal of the attack was to protect civilians in Lebanon and deter further Israeli aggression. The speech also aimed to reassure Lebanon that there is no immediate threat of an all-out war with Israel.
