A 32-year-old woman is in critical condition in the hospital after being stabbed at the Notting Hill carnival, according to the Metropolitan police. The police have reported a total of three stabbings at the annual west London celebration, with a 29-year-old man in hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and a 24-year-old man whose condition is still unknown. In addition, fifteen officers were assaulted during the event, but none were seriously injured. The police made 90 arrests on Sunday, with suspects facing charges related to assault, possession with intent to supply drugs, sexual offenses, robbery, drug possession, theft, possession of nitrous oxide, and public order offenses.
A spokesperson for the police praised the majority of attendees for enjoying a fantastic celebration, but noted that a minority had come to commit crime and engage in violence. The police had a carefully planned operation in place to keep everyone safe, but granted greater search powers to prevent further violence after the initial stabbings and recovery of knives at the event.
The Notting Hill carnival, which attracts hundreds of thousands of people, is known for its vibrant celebration of Caribbean culture. However, incidents of violence and crime have unfortunately marred this year’s festivities. The police are continuing to investigate the stabbings and assaults that occurred, and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
