The league conducted an investigation into the allegations, but Colorado ultimately declined to provide evidence for their claims. The Buffaloes had reported multiple “potential incursions” into their online server, but a third-party investigation by Catapult, the system used by Colorado, found no evidence of a breach.
After the game, Oregon denied any knowledge of the alleged illegal access and stated that they saw no reason to comment further on the matter. The incident sparked concerns about cybersecurity in college football, especially as the NCAA introduced new technology such as helmet communications and sideline access to film via tablets for the 2024 season.
Catapult, the company behind the system used by Colorado, faced scrutiny in December after reports of potential security concerns from other universities. However, the company conducted a security review and found no breaches or unauthorized access. In response to the allegations, Catapult sent an email to its users reassuring them that they were not under investigation by the NCAA or law enforcement.
The controversy highlights the growing importance of cybersecurity in college sports and the need for universities to ensure the protection of their data and systems from potential breaches and illegal access.
