A controlled explosion during a filming event near the O2 arena in London resulted in a fire that destroyed a van and damaged a car and lorry. The incident took place in an open-air yard in Dock Road, Silvertown, with firefighters responding shortly before 8pm on Saturday. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the blaze was under control just over an hour later after 25 firefighters attended the scene.
London fire brigade confirmed that the fire was a result of a controlled explosion during a filming event that got out of control. The fire destroyed one van and caused damage to a car and lorry, but there were no injuries reported. The incident occurred near the O2 arena, which will be hosting concerts by Niall Horan and Texas the following week.
Witnesses shared videos of the fire on social media, with some noting that small explosions were heard before the fire began. The Met police assured the public that the explosions were part of a pre-planned filming event and there was no risk to the public. The fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters, who remained on the scene for the remainder of the evening.
The open-air yard in Dock Road is also in close proximity to London’s cable car link across the River Thames. Despite the damages caused by the fire, authorities confirmed that there was no danger to the public and the situation was under control.
