A U.S. military operation in Iraq resulted in the deaths of at least 15 Islamic State militants, including some leaders, on Thursday. Six U.S. soldiers were injured, but none of the injuries were life-threatening. Some soldiers suffered possible traumatic brain injuries, while one had external injuries. The operation was a partnered raid with Iraqi security forces in Anbar, western Iraq. The ISIS militants were armed with weapons, grenades, and explosive suicide belts. The goal of the operation was to disrupt and degrade ISIS’ ability to plan and carry out attacks against Iraqi civilians, U.S. citizens, allies, and partners in the region. CENTCOM stated that there were no civilian casualties during the operation. Iraqi Security Forces are continuing to exploit the locations that were raided.
