Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson expressed support for implementing an enforceable code of ethics for Supreme Court justices in a recent interview. She noted that such a code is standard for judges and questioned why the Supreme Court should be any different. The issue of ethics on the Supreme Court has gained attention due to revelations about justices not disclosing gifts on ethics forms, such as Justice Clarence Thomas accepting gifts from a GOP mega-donor. President Joe Biden has proposed reforms, including making the Supreme Court subject to an enforceable code. Jackson did not specify a specific proposal she supported but expressed no issue with an enforceable code in general. She also discussed a recent case involving presidential immunity for official acts, where she dissented. Jackson expressed concern about providing immunity to one individual under certain circumstances in the criminal justice system. When asked about potentially deciding on election disputes, she laughed and said she is prepared as anyone can be. Jackson emphasized the need for the Supreme Court to be ready to respond to legal issues arising from the political process if necessary.
