Missing California woman found alive in wilderness after 12 days

Esmeralda Marie Pineda, a 24-year-old woman from Sacramento, was found in the Northern California wilderness after going missing for 12 days. She was discovered severely dehydrated and emaciated near the Yuba River and Sweetland Creek in Nevada City. Pineda was suffering from sun exposure and required immediate medical attention. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, along with the California Highway Patrol and North San Juan Fire Department, airlifted her to a hospital for treatment. Her condition and injuries are unknown at this time.

Pineda had gone missing from a mining camp near the Yuba River and Sweetland Creek on August 26. She was camping with friends when she expressed a desire to return to Sacramento. When she disappeared the next day, her friends searched for her but could not find any signs of her whereabouts. The area where she was found was difficult to navigate, with no established trail systems. Rescuers were impressed by her ability to climb to the top of the canyon, indicating strong survival instincts. Sgt. Dustin Moe expressed gratitude for finding Pineda alive and credited her survival to luck and good instincts.

Pineda’s miraculous survival has left many amazed at her strength and resilience in the face of adversity. Despite the challenges she faced, she managed to endure nearly two weeks alone in the wilderness, a feat that has left many questioning the limits of human endurance and survival.
