Authorities are searching for Joseph A. Couch, who has been charged with attempted murder and assault in connection with a mass shooting on a Kentucky highway. The shooting took place on Interstate 75, leaving five people seriously injured. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. The search for Couch continued on Monday, with deputies searching in remote woods near the scene of the shooting. The gunman opened fire from three different perches along a ridge that looks down on the interstate. A warrant charges Couch with five counts of attempted murder and five counts of first-degree assault. He could face additional charges, such as property damage and wanton endangerment. Couch had served in the National Guard and has a relatively clean record. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation. Laurel County Public Schools canceled classes on Monday as a precaution. The suspect’s vehicle was found near the scene of the shooting with an AR-15 believed to have been used in the attack. The court processes will begin quickly once Couch is in custody, according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 27th Judicial Circuit.
