A massive wildfire, known as the Line Fire, is raging in the foothills of a national forest east of Los Angeles, threatening thousands of buildings and forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate. The fire has burned about 27 square miles of grass and chaparral, creating its pyroculumus clouds and challenging firefighters with steep terrain. Evacuation orders have been issued for several areas, including Running Springs and Arrowbear Lake.

Residents like Steven Michael King and Michael Lee have been forced to leave their homes, with one resident expressing a desire to return despite the dangerous triple-digit temperatures. Three firefighters have been injured, and over 35,000 structures are in jeopardy. Thunderstorms are expected to complicate firefighting efforts in the coming days.

The affected area is near popular mountain towns in the San Bernardino National Forest where outdoor activities are common. Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for San Bernardino County. In Clearlake City, approximately 4,000 people are being evacuated due to another wildfire burning structures.

Over 600 firefighters are battling the blaze, with additional resources expected to arrive. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Despite the intense heatwave in the region, no homes have been damaged or destroyed. Downtown Los Angeles experienced record-breaking temperatures, adding to the challenges faced by residents and firefighters dealing with the wildfires.
