Israeli airstrikes in central Syria have resulted in the deaths of at least 18 people, including eight Syrian fighters, and injured 32 others, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The strikes targeted military and scientific facilities where Iran-backed armed groups were reportedly present. The Syrian state media reported that 14 people were killed in the strikes. Syrian media also reported that two fires were started due to the strikes.
Former Israeli defense minister Benny Gantz has suggested that Israel should shift its focus towards Hezbollah and the Lebanese border, as Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah continue to engage in cross-border fire. Gantz believes that focusing on Hezbollah is crucial, as they are trying to destabilize the region.
In Gaza, the healthcare system is on the brink of collapse due to ongoing Israeli airstrikes. The director of Northern Gaza’s Kamal Adwan hospital warns that the hospital will be out of service within 48 hours due to a lack of fuel and medical supplies. Conditions in Gaza are dire, with severe shortages of water, medicine, and fuel causing lack of access to healthcare services.
The airstrikes in Syria have drawn condemnation from various parties, including the Jordanian foreign ministry, which called the killing of three Israeli civilians “an individual act.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack, calling it “a difficult day.” Additionally, an Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza killed a senior aid official and four members of his family, further worsening the humanitarian crisis in the region.
