Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was charged in connection with an alleged assassination attempt against Donald Trump in Florida this month. He dropped off a box at a person’s home containing ammunition, phones, and a letter declaring it was an assassination attempt. Routh was spotted by a Secret Service agent aiming a rifle at Trump at a golf club, and was arrested after fleeing. The FBI found evidence in Routh’s vehicle connecting him to the crime, including maps, gloves, and a notebook with names and phone numbers related to Ukraine. The vehicle also contained an unregistered license plate and another weapon with an obliterated serial number. Routh’s sister, a lawyer, offered to house him if released on bail, but the judge ruled that he be held in jail pending trial. Law enforcement discovered a hiding spot near the golf course where Routh had been, equipped with a rifle, scopes, and armor plates. The prosecutor claimed Routh’s only reason for being in Florida was to kill Trump. Routh appeared in court for several hours, where the judge ultimately decided to keep him in custody. Heavy police presence was observed at the golf course after the incident.
