The Israeli military has launched dozens of airstrikes on southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah militants. Residents in multiple towns reported populated areas being hit by missiles, resulting in at least one person killed and several others wounded. The strikes also targeted the Baalbek and Hermel regions, where a shepherd was killed and several others wounded. The IDF has warned Lebanese civilians against allowing Hezbollah militants to use their homes to store weapons.
The airstrikes come after a heavy exchange of fire between Hezbollah and Israel on Sunday, where Hezbollah launched more than 100 rockets, missiles, and drones into northern Israel. This came after an Israeli airstrike killed a top Hezbollah military commander and others. Last week, thousands of communications devices used by Hezbollah exploded in Lebanon, killing 39 and injuring nearly 3,000. Lebanon blamed Israel for the attacks, though Israel did not confirm or deny responsibility.
Israeli forces are currently focused on aerial operations and have not announced plans for a ground operation. Lebanese media reported that residents received text messages urging them to move away from buildings where Hezbollah stores arms. Despite the warnings, there is no immediate exodus from southern Lebanon. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah highlights the tense situation in the region and the potential for further violence.
