September Design Event Sparks Excitement in Brussels with Emphasis on Reusable and Adaptable Designs

Brussels is alive with creativity as it celebrates its annual Design September festival, with a month-long showcase of art exhibitions and events. One of the highlights is Dutch-Italian artist Jacopo Koning’s exhibition ‘The Absurd Greet’ at the Alto Galleria jewellery store in Ixelles. Inspired by Dadaism, Koning’s work challenges the norms of society and our constant bombardment of information.

Other exhibitions at Design September offer solutions for improving lives, such as an expandable wheelchair for children created by Czech designer Jan Kaděra. The innovative wheelchair, called “Hugo”, is designed to be more reusable and durable, addressing the financial burden faced by many families.

The festival also features the ‘New Ways of Living’ exhibition at the Halles Saint-Géry market, curated by CityTools & Dogma. This exhibition focuses on sustainable living solutions to address the challenges faced by European cities regarding socio-cultural, economic, and climatic issues.

Antoine Crahay, an urban developer and lecturer, highlights the importance of creating buildings that are flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of residents without constant demolition and reconstruction.

Design September will return to Brussels in 2025, showcasing the best of European design and innovation. The festival offers a platform for artists and designers to share their vision for a more sustainable and creative future.
