The jobless rates in Central Oregon remained steady in August, according to a recent report by KTVZ. Despite this overall stability, there were some reports of job losses in the region.
Throughout Central Oregon, both Deschutes County and Crook County saw little change in their unemployment rates, with Deschutes County holding at 6.2% and Crook County at 7.8%. Jefferson County, on the other hand, saw a slight increase in its jobless rate from 8.5% in July to 8.7% in August.
While the overall unemployment rates remained relatively unchanged, there were reports of job losses in various sectors. The leisure and hospitality industry saw the most significant decline, with around 800 jobs lost in the region. The construction industry also reported a decrease in employment, with about 400 jobs lost.
Despite these losses, some sectors saw an increase in jobs. The professional and business services sector added around 200 jobs, while the education and health services industry saw an increase of about 100 jobs.
Overall, the job market in Central Oregon appears to be holding steady, with unemployment rates remaining relatively unchanged in August. However, the region continues to face challenges, particularly in industries such as leisure and hospitality and construction. As the economy continues to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be important to monitor these trends and support efforts to create more job opportunities in the region.
