Israel’s military has claimed that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in a massive Israeli strike on Beirut, targeting the group’s central headquarters. Nasrallah, who has led Hezbollah for 32 years, has yet to issue a statement on his status. If his death is confirmed, he would be the latest in a series of Middle Eastern political leaders and commanders to be killed by Israel in recent months.
The Israeli strikes have targeted top Hezbollah and Hamas leaders and commanders, with operations resulting in several key figures being killed. These include Ibrahim Qubaisi, Ibrahim Aqil, Ahmed Wahbi, Fuad Shukr, Muhammed Nasser, Taleb Abdallah from Hezbollah, and Mohammed Deif, Ismail Haniyeh, and Saleh al-Arouri from Hamas.
Additionally, Iranian officials have also been targeted, with senior Quds Force commander Mohammad Reza Zahedi and his deputy Mohammad Hadi Hajriahimi being killed in an Israeli airstrike that destroyed the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
The escalating violence in the region since October 7 has seen a significant increase in these targeted killings, resulting in the deaths of key leaders and commanders. The impact of these strikes on the political landscape of the Middle East remains to be seen, with tensions continuing to rise in the region as a result of increased military operations and targeted killings.
