Tropical Storm Milton emerges shortly after the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene

Tropical Storm Milton formed in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane, bringing life-threatening conditions to Florida’s west coast. Maximum sustained winds are estimated at 40 mph with higher gusts. Hurricane and storm surge watches are likely to be issued for certain regions of Florida on Sunday. Heavy rainfall is expected to impact portions of the state on Sunday and Monday, increasing the risk of flooding. Pinellas County is providing sandbags to residents as a precaution. Areas of the northern Yucatán Peninsula and western Cuba may also experience heavy rainfall from the storm. The NHC advises those in these areas, as well as in the Florida Peninsula, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas, to closely monitor the system for potential impacts. It is still too early to determine the exact path and impact of Tropical Storm Milton on Pinellas County.
