Israel receives a significant amount of military aid from the United States, totaling more than $3 billion annually. In April, Congress approved an additional $14 billion in military assistance for Israel, along with $9.5 billion in humanitarian aid for Gaza, Ukraine, and Sudan. Despite this support, President Joe Biden has been critical of Israel, stating that the Palestinian people have endured “sheer hell.” The White House has acknowledged that Israel may have violated international law in Gaza using U.S. weapons.
Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have not outlined clear strategies for dealing with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with Harris indicating she would follow Biden’s approach and Trump showing support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Support for Israel has declined in many countries, with the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court investigating accusations of genocide and war crimes against Israel and its leaders.
More recently, Israel has faced attacks from Lebanon’s Hezbollah, leading to a new humanitarian crisis in both countries. Over 1 million people in Lebanon and 70,000 Israelis have been displaced as a result of the conflict. Despite these challenges, there is hope for change in the future, with growing international support for the Palestinian cause and a shift in attitudes, particularly among younger generations in the United States and worldwide.
