Elon Musk, a tech billionaire, stated at a town hall event that he believes all voting should be done in person with paper ballots and ID. This contradicts his own history of voting by mail and the efforts of his pro-Trump super PAC, America PAC, to promote mail-in and absentee voting. Musk also promoted a conspiracy theory related to Dominion Voting Systems rigging elections, which the company has disputed. Musk’s super PAC has received nearly $75 million from him and is promoting mail-in voting this year. Despite his opposition to mail-in voting, Musk has used it himself in previous elections. He suggested allowing people to post potential evidence of voter fraud on his social media app X for others to review. Musk repeated several false conspiracy theories during the town hall event, including the idea that Democrats are bringing immigrants into swing states to vote. One audience member asked if Musk would consider hiring a conservative activist who spreads conspiracy theories if Trump were to be reelected, to which Musk responded positively. Musk also made a joke about the lack of charges related to pipe bombs left near the U.S. Capitol before the January 6th attack.
