Two men have been convicted of robbing an off-duty Secret Service agent at gunpoint after a Los Angeles fundraiser attended by President Joe Biden. The robbery occurred in a residential neighborhood in Tustin, California, with DNA evidence connecting one of the men, Jamonte Fitzgerald Johnson, to the crime. Johnson pointed a gun at the agent, took his laptop bag, and dropped the weapon as he escaped. The stolen items, including a cell phone and radio, were later recovered in the area. Johnson, a repeat offender, was found guilty of robbery and weapons charges, facing a potential sentence of 35 years to life in state prison. Another man, E’shon Dwayne Dodson, was also convicted in connection to the robbery and faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison. During the robbery, the agent fired shots, injuring Bertran Claude Bell, who was in the getaway vehicle. Bell pleaded guilty to robbery, sustaining a six-year prison sentence. The incidents demonstrate that justice will be served swiftly and decisively in Orange County, according to District Attorney Todd Spitzer. The men have not commented publicly on the case.
