A tragic accident occurred on Monday evening in Jackson County, Oregon when a pedestrian, Yesica Valenzuela-Quezada, 29, was struck and killed by a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Melissa Ann Marie Love, 45. The incident occurred on Highway 62 near milepost 13, after Valenzuela-Quezada chased a puppy onto the highway.
The Oregon State Police responded to the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation. Valenzuela-Quezada, a resident of Eagle Point, was declared deceased at the scene while Love, also from Eagle Point, was uninjured in the crash.
The on-scene investigation caused a three-hour closure of the highway, impacting traffic in the area. However, Love remained cooperative with investigators and stayed at the scene following the accident.
Several local agencies assisted the Oregon State Police during the investigation, including the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Fire Districts 3 and 4, Eagle Point Police Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
This tragic accident serves as a reminder of the importance of roadway safety and the dangers of chasing animals onto busy highways. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Yesica Valenzuela-Quezada during this difficult time.
