Stabbing spree in New York City leaves two dead at three Manhattan locations

A knife-wielding assailant went on a stabbing spree through the streets of New York City, killing two men and critically injuring a woman. The attacks occurred at different locations in the city, with the two men being pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital. The woman was left in critical condition after being stabbed near the United Nations building. A person of interest, described as a homeless man with a long arrest record, was captured by police shortly after the incidents.

The attacks were described as unprovoked, with the suspect walking up to the victims and attacking them with knives. The victims have not been identified yet, pending notification of their families. The suspect was apprehended by a police officer after a taxi driver witnessed the attack and alerted the authorities.

The Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, praised the actions of the everyday New Yorker who provided information that led to the apprehension of the suspect. The incident comes at a time when violent crime is a major concern in both local and national politics, although overall crime rates in New York City have shown a slight decrease compared to previous years.

The attacks highlight the ongoing issue of violence in urban areas and the need for continued efforts to address and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
