President-elect Donald Trump has chosen former congressman and Fox Business host Sean Duffy as his pick for transportation secretary in his upcoming administration. Trump described Duffy as a respected public servant with experience advocating for fiscal responsibility, economic growth, and rural development during his time in Congress. Trump highlighted Duffy’s plans to focus on safety, efficiency, and innovation in rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure and improving the travel experience for Americans.
Duffy is the second Fox host that Trump has selected for a Cabinet post, following his nomination of Fox News personality Pete Hegseth to lead the Defense Department. In announcing Duffy’s selection, Trump mentioned his intention to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion programs for pilots and air traffic controllers to make the skies safer. The transportation secretary post still requires Senate confirmation.
Duffy, 53, previously served in the House from 2011 to 2019, where he was a member of the Financial Services Committee and chaired a subcommittee on oversight and investigations. He left Congress in 2019 after learning that his child would be born with a heart condition. Duffy first gained fame appearing on the reality TV show “The Real World: Boston” in 1997 and is married to Rachel Campos-Duffy, who also starred in the series in 1994. Duffy’s departure from Fox News was also announced in light of his new position.
