High Wind Warning Issued as Storm Approaches Oregon Coast
COOS BAY, Ore. — The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the Oregon coast as a powerful storm approaches, bringing heavy rainfall and potential wind gusts of up to 60 mph. In addition to the dangerous winds, locals are being cautioned about hazardous sea conditions, with a high surf warning in place for towering waves expected to reach as high as 30 feet.
Residents gathered to observe the storm, with some, like Charleston resident Glen Hart, reconsidering outdoor plans. Hart, who brought his kayak, stated, “Not when it’s like this – because I would rather save my life, rather than risk my life.”
Local fishermen are taking precautions as well. Chad Ravencroft, who was preparing his boat at the Charleston marina, expressed concern over the impending weather. “Just make sure you’re secured to the dock well, be ready,” he advised, noting that this storm is projected to be the most severe of the winter season so far. He also warned boat owners to secure their vessels, enhance safety lines, and check for leaks to prevent losses.
Emergency personnel are also gearing up for the storm, reassuring the public of their readiness. Bay Cities General Manager Tim Novotney stated, “We are prepared. Every year we experience these winter storms, but our infrastructure is there and we’re prepared as we can be.”
As the storm approaches, residents and local officials are bracing for its impact while urging caution and preparedness amidst the tumultuous conditions.
