Villanova University has announced Eric Roedl as their new Athletic Director, replacing Mark Jackson who left earlier this year. Roedl, a 1997 Villanova graduate and former tennis player for the Wildcats, currently serves as the COO and Deputy AD at the University of Oregon. He will officially begin his role at Villanova in January 2025.
Roedl expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and shared his vision to maintain a championship culture in the athletic department, focusing on the success and well-being of student-athletes. Villanova President Rev. Peter Donohue praised Roedl’s experience and commitment to student-athletes, stating that he was the standout candidate among a talented pool.
During his time at Oregon, Roedl oversaw various sports programs and led external operations, generating significant revenue through ticket sales, marketing, and fundraising. He also served on multiple collegiate athletic committees and has a strong background in athletic administration.
Oregon AD Rob Mullens and basketball coach Dana Altman commended Roedl’s leadership and passion for Villanova, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the Wildcats’ athletic department to success. Roedl’s experience in the Big 5, including previous roles at Temple and William and Mary, adds to his qualifications for the job.
Roedl and his wife, Nicole, both Villanova graduates, will be moving to the Main Line with their three sons. The Villanova community is excited to welcome Roedl and looks forward to the future of Wildcat athletics under his leadership.
