Villanova University has announced the hiring of Eric Roedl as its new athletic director, taking over the position in January 2025. Roedl, who currently serves as the Deputy Athletic Director and Chief Operating Officer at Oregon, is a Villanova alumnus with extensive experience in collegiate athletics administration. His appointment comes after former athletic director Mark Jackson left for Northwestern in August, with Lynn Tighe serving as interim athletic director during the search process. Roedl, who also holds a master’s degree in sport administration and an MBA, has a proven track record of success in overseeing athletic programs, including a $145 million program at Oregon. He has also been involved in various leadership roles within the Pac-12 conference and NCAA committees. Roedl’s vision for Villanova Athletics includes maintaining a championship culture that prioritizes student-athlete success and excellence. The hiring process was overseen by a committee consisting of board members, alumni, faculty, and staff, with Parker Executive Search assisting in the selection. The Villanova community looks forward to Roedl’s leadership and the continuation of the university’s successful athletic legacy.
