Wolves Suffer Defeat Against Humboldt on Tuesday Evening

Wolves Fall to Lumberjacks, Prepare for Home Opener

ARCATA, Calif. – In a tough matchup on Tuesday night, the Western Oregon men’s basketball team faced off against Cal Poly Humboldt, ultimately succumbing to an 87-70 defeat at Lumberjack Arena. This loss puts the Wolves’ season record at 1-7, marking their ongoing struggles as they look to find their rhythm.

The Wolves found themselves in an early deficit, trailing behind the Lumberjacks (3-1). However, a late surge in the second half brought a glimmer of hope. An impressive dunk by Anjay Cortez with 3:10 remaining reduced the Lumberjacks’ substantial 17-point lead to just six, narrowing the score to 75-69. Unfortunately for the Wolves, Cal Poly Humboldt swiftly responded, scoring the next six points to reestablish a commanding lead and secure the victory.

Cortez was the standout performer for Western Oregon, leading the team with 23 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Jason Gallant also contributed significantly, adding 19 points and a team-high four assists.

Despite the disappointing result, the Wolves are looking to turn the tide as they prepare for their home opener this Saturday, November 23, against Academy of Art at 2 p.m. This upcoming game represents an important opportunity for the team to improve their standing and gain momentum after a challenging start to the season. Fans and supporters are encouraged to attend and cheer on the Wolves as they seek their second win and aim for a successful run in the remainder of the season.
